Governor Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Tina Smith officially declared Minnesota Farmers’ Market Week the week of August 6-12, 2017. Minnesota Grown is celebrating by featuring markets throughout the week on social media and highlighting their importance to communities across the state.
“Farmers’ markets bridge the gap between local independent agriculturists and the community,” said David from St. Paul Farmers’ Market. “They increase the access of healthy foods to surrounding communities.” Farmers’ Markets also help the local economy. According to the National Farmers Market Coalition, locally owned retailers return three times as much sales back into the local economy versus chain grocery stores.
