Minnesota Grown celebrates Minnesota Farmers’ Market

August 8, 2017 by Danielle Daugaard

Governor Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Tina Smith officially declared Minnesota Farmers’ Market Week the week of August 6-12, 2017. Minnesota Grown is celebrating by featuring markets throughout the week on social media and highlighting their importance to communities across the state.

“Farmers’ markets bridge the gap between local independent agriculturists and the community,” said David from St. Paul Farmers’ Market. “They increase the access of healthy foods to surrounding communities.” Farmers’ Markets also help the local economy. According to the National Farmers Market Coalition, locally owned retailers return three times as much sales back into the local economy versus chain grocery stores.

“Like” Minnesota Grown on Facebook to learn more about some of the individual markets celebrating Farmers’ Market Week! Events vary depending on the market, but music, kids’ activities, demonstrations, and free food are some of the upcoming festivities at markets this week. Contact your local market or visit their Facebook page for information on special events. Looking for a market near you? The Minnesota Grown Directory has 186 market listings to choose from.
