May Pick of the Month

May 16, 2016 by Danielle Daugaard

Have you heard the buzz about native plants? In addition to supporting Minnesota’s pollinators, native plants have a multitude of environmental benefits. Memorial Day is approaching and we’re getting our grills ready for the delicious meats that have become a staple of the holiday. In addition to beef, pork, and chicken, Minnesota is lucky to have a diverse selection of other protein-packed meats like elk, bison, and lamb, to name just a few. This month, we spoke with Splendor Ridge Elk Farm, Johnson Heritage Farms, Lutz Cuts, and Savanna River Bison to get their expert advice for preparing meats and favorite recipes.

Looking forward to the opening of your local farmers market? Prepare for your next trip to the market with our guide to some of the vegetables you’ll find there this spring. Don’t worry, we’ve also included some of the best spring-inspired recipes from around the state that make great use of our local produce!
