Minnesota Grown member farm Redhead Creamery took home the award for the Nation’s Best Natural Rind Cheddar at the United States Championship Cheese contest. Their Lucky Linda Clothbound Cheddar was also picked as one of the top 20 of 2,249 entries!
Lucky Linda Clothbound Cheddar is aged over six months in aging rooms beneath the Creamery’s on-farm store. It is made in the traditional English style, providing a full taste to pair with a red wine. Lucky Linda Clothbound Cheddar is named after Linda Jennissen, living matriarch of the Redhead Creamery brand, where they celebrated the cheese’s original green mold and Linda’s love of St. Patrick’s Day in naming the cheese. The cheese was the first the family-owned operation developed upon opening in 2014, and has also won awards at the American Cheese Society and Minnesota State Fair competitions, in addition to placing previously in the top seven in the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest and World Championship Cheese Contest.
As the Best-in-Class Natural Rind Cheddar, it was joined in the category by Redhead Creamery’s Margie Cheddar, which took home fifth place. Margie is made in a slightly more American style, with some sweetness and pop on the tongue and a smooth finish. Both Margie and Lucky Linda can be bought in wedge or wheel form at www.redheadcreamery.com for shipping throughout the U.S., Cheese Van delivery in the Twin Cities, Fargo, and in-between, and at places where fine cheese is sold. Redhead Creamery will hold their fifth annual Curd Fest music and food celebration at their farm on June 17, 2023.
