Course Description: Spend a hands-on, good-smelling session learning the craft (and chemistry) of goat milk soap. We’ll demystify the science—saponification, superfatting, and why different oils (olive, coconut, shea, castor) change hardness, lather, and conditioning—then walk through a live demo of making a silky, skin-loving goat milk batch from scratch. You will leave with a bar of custom soap and the knowledge you need to start making your own soap at home. Safety gear is provided, but lye can stain clothing. Please dress appropriately.

All are welcome – WEI classes are open to everyone.

Instructor Bio: Mandi Sawyer is the soap maker for Wild Haven Farm’s line of body and shave soaps.  She loves the science and creativity of soap making.  When she is not making soap, she works on her Certified Organic farm, treats patients using Traditional Chinese Medicine, and works towards training the next generation of TCM herbalists.

Make a day of it! On the way to WEI, visit charming Lindstrom, MN, for Northwoods Roasterie coffee and a pastry from the Lindstrom Bakery. After class, visit Wild River State Park (only 10 minutes from WEI). Franconia Sculpture Park is also nearby and open ’til 8pm daily.

If you would be interested in staying overnight at WEI before and/or after this class, please reserve accommodations through our FarmStay.
